Buster, the Dog Who Saved A Thousand Lives

This book is sensitively written without taking anything away from the impact it had on me.

Buster was a real character, this came through very clearly, but it also showed how essential such a four legged guardian is in battle environments. Not only because of their essential task of finding hidden explosives/guns/ ammunition, but also as emotional support generally.

I thought I had a good understanding of what our troops, and dogs, go through 'in theatre', but this book opened my eyes even more. They're not so much 'heroes' but thoroughly extraordinary, ordinary, people and animals.

The words in the book put across clearly how it was for Will (and others) in war zones, while focussing the very special part Buster played as bomb detector, social worker, and best friend, without making the subject into a 'Disney character'.

I highly recommend it.

The Final Reckoning

The Final Reckoning is an atmospheric, twisty thriller set in the peaceful (or maybe not so peaceful) Herefordshire countryside.

When Lindsay Ellis was a teenager,  he stumbled across the dead body of her boyfriend Simon’s father, who had been battered to death.

Someone in the village knows who murdered Simon's father, and why.

Does the actual killer suspect Lindsay also knows the identity of the murderer, and is Lindsay now in great danger, too?
