Readers Reviews Of Penhaligon's Gift By Terri Nixon

I am delighted to be sharing readers reviews of Terri Nixon's latest novel. My thanks to Sophia of Piatkus Fiction for donating copies.

A really enjoyable book taking you through the lives of Freya, Anna, Mairead and the locals. Freya awaits the return of Tristan but to find her mother on the coach is a shock. Freya has bad feelings about her mothers return and when Tristan proposes she is also faced with hostility. Will she come through with her head held high?

I recommend this book. It is well worth 5*

This is the third book in the Penhaligon series and in my opinion, probably the best so far. The characters have grown into themselves and the setting is there for the reader to settle into like a comfy pair of shoes. There is a handy character guide at the start in case you haven't read the previous books but once I started the story it took very little for me to become engrossed.

We catch up with Anna who faces new challenges now Isabelle appears on the scene. Will she destroy Anna's happiness with Matthew and just why is she staying for so long? In the last book, we left Freya wondering where she stood with Tristan and even though he returns, you can be sure that love isn't going to run smoothly for these two.

Meanwhile, at the big house, Hugo is facing challenges of his own. When James discovers something about the family's past, it sets in motion a destructive chain that will have tragic consequences. An easy but absorbing read that I devoured in two sittings. The lavishly described Cornish setting, the relationships between the characters and an unforgettable story means that it won't take you long to devour this book too.

The third book in the Penhaligon Saga, and I got straight into the story, It starts during March 1911 in Caernoweth Cornwall. I love the way the book introduces the characters at the beginning. The story of Freya and Tristan Mackenzie as they prepare to marry but not to everyones joy.

I loved this book and really got pulled into the story from the start.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s the third in the series, and although I hadn’t read the first two it didn’t affect my enjoyment. Set in 1911 with strong characters it's about love and ambition in families.

Freya is the heroine and Tristan the man she loves but it isn’t straightforward.  The families are hit by past secrets and problems with their dreams and ambitions. There is disaster too.

There is an excellent 'Cast List' at the start which really helped me to catch up on the characters.

Yes I will read the other to see how Freya and her mother got to this point. The bonus of course is that it’s set in Cornwall.

Good read.

As this is the first book I have read I must admit I was a little confused at first as the settings did not initially resemble the era in which they were set. I did however enjoy the book and the storyline was very good.

I look forward to reading the earlier books in the series.

The Final Reckoning

The Final Reckoning is an atmospheric, twisty thriller set in the peaceful (or maybe not so peaceful) Herefordshire countryside.

When Lindsay Ellis was a teenager,  he stumbled across the dead body of her boyfriend Simon’s father, who had been battered to death.

Someone in the village knows who murdered Simon's father, and why.

Does the actual killer suspect Lindsay also knows the identity of the murderer, and is Lindsay now in great danger, too?
